I am running Debian GNU/Linux Sarge (22 Mar 04) with GNOME 2.4. My
motherboard runs on nVidia nForce 2 chipset which has nVidia GeForce
IGP. To enjoy accelerated graphics, I installed the XFree driver
provided by nVidia from their website. When I was running Quake III from
GNOME, it crashed. Since then I have problems with GNOME. GNOME failed
to start next time. So, I swithced to Failsafe GNOME session and it got
started. After that even if I go into the normal sessions, the GNOME 2
window decorations are gone. I am getting the "Crux" window decoration
(GNOME 1) as default. Even if I try switching between GTK 2 themes, the
same window decoration (Crux) remains persistent and only the UI look
and feel changes. What could be wrong? Should I force install GNOME
components again to recover?
PS: Now, almost all the games are running without crash. Also, the
system seems to be pretty stable.
