Not much news in that slashdot link. But thought I would put it anyway.
Here's a mirror to a screenshot of Plasma. It took quite sometime

I hope KDE4 is not like as shown above. It's already too much of a
memory hog. I just couldn't work on it in my Celeron 633 MHz with
256MB RAM. Each application taking 15-20 seconds to load.
The simplekde server seems to have crashed. From what I read the
KDE team has forked (unofficial)
