Well, strict guidelines. My current thinking (helped by a post in the BSD
list) is OSS will be default. If an open source app is not a available,
closed source apps wil be considered for OSS operting systems. If this not
a
choice, then, and only then will a any other alternatives be looked into.
Right tool for the job.
This sounds a good way to go.
1. If there is a task to be performed and there is a free software
equivalent to some commercial tool the management could keep the free
software in mind.
Like I said, it will eb the other way around, OSS is default :)
Then have you set up any disincentives for using commercial software?
99.999% inhouse development. Heck, this place runs Ingres, COBOL, SCO,
Irix,
Linux, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SAP-DB, and what-not... We need a Bismarck.
And you need interoperablity between GNU, BSD and closed source licenses,
especially if you do something cross platform :) GNU and BSD code don't
play "good neighbor" very well ...
