I leave minefield running and in reasonably continuous use (several

nagios etc) for several hours, starting up early in the morning and by 
fairly late in the evening (9 pm say) it starts occupying > 90% cpu so I 
have to ctrl alt f3 to a console and killall firefox

Perhaps it has something to do with the web sites rather than the 
browser itself.

PS. the DOM Inspector that accompanies FF2, FF3 leaks memory.
