so how do I get the NetworkManager applet to show? I rebooted, and had to add
the default route by hand.
Ok, here is what you do:
a. execute as root:
$ service NetworkManager restart
if that doesn't show up the network manager applet in your panel, execute (as
the logged in user):
$ nm-applet
if that errors out ..copy/paste the error here. If it doesn't and the applet
does show up go the 'System' entry in the main panel and then
"Preferences->Startup Applications". Scroll down and search for Network Manager
and enable it. If no such entry exists, click the "Add" button and enter:
Name: Network Manager
Command: nm-applet --sm-disable
Comment: whatever
after the applet shows up do (f) and (g) above.
