Ok. so in what way is it hard coded then ?
I was wrong - the gateway is not entered anywhere. wvdial seems to find it. It
is only in ethernet connections that this problem arises.
Anyways, could you also paste the contents of
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 ?
# Broadcom Corporation NetLink BCM5787M Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express
DEVICE=eth0
HWADDR=00:1e:68:3e:7b:2f
ONBOOT=yes
SEARCH="web"
BOOTPROTO=dhcp
USERCTL=no
IPV6INIT=no
NM_CONTROLLED=no
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
That's not right, if you expect NM to set the routes for you.
I think i know what the problem is ! You configured the network connection
using
system-config-network but control it using NetworkManager.
Here is what I suggest you try:
a. run system-config-network
b. choose eth0 and click "edit"
c. check mark the 'Controlled by NetworkManager' option right below the name of
the connection.
d. exit out of system-config-network
e. right-click the NetworkManger applet (btw, if you are running kde make sure
it is the NetworkManager applet you have running in the panel, *not* the kde
whatsitcalled thingy for network control -- you can tell by right clicking and
verifying the 'About') and click 'Edit connections'
f. Add a new wired connection (the good thing about NM is you can have multiple
wired connections 'configurations' for the same device, and can seamlessly
switch between them -- just name them differently)
g. try it out and report back.
cheers,
