Depending on which login manager you have installed xdm, gdm or kdm,
try /etc/init.d/kdm start.
That *should* work.

this worked..
iam getting another issue which iam not able to solve with earlier
debian releases also
my scroll mouse is not detected with its scrolling facility
iam able to use it as an ordinary 3 button mouse
but no scroll :(
any help?
