If You Are connected using the LAN You might want to try restarting
the modem. Turn It Off wait for a minute and turn it back on. I don't
know why.. but this used to work when i was Using a Hathway Connection
6 Months ago. Also the Ericsson's modem they provide has a button
which when pressed will stop all internet traffic. You might want to
try toggling that Switch.

Select eth0. Put in the values of IP, gateway, subnet mask. And in the other
tab,
for name servers put in the DNS server names.
If you can give the method by which he did, then maybe someone can point out
what's going
wrong. I have used Hathway on Ubuntu and never had any problems.
Is the cable modem connected via USB port? I don't think net will work if
the
modem is connected via USB port, ask him to connect to the LAN card then.
