How? A company buying a proprietary product from another company has no
impact on the open source community.
The sourceforge.net could be a proprietary product, but as everyone
knows, it's an open source community. The community is heavily
dependent on the company/entity who is hosting that community. If it
is moving to different hands, they may still keep going. In addition,
they may improve the service much better and make it a wonderful place
to host open source projects. On the other hand, they may also
shutdown the service, if they have justifiable reasons, in which case,
the community may move to different hosting service provider. Anyway,
it is just my opinion.
Not necessarily. It can just function as a proprietary web service with
commercial gains.
