Strictly speaking, this deal is about Collabnet buying a proprietary
software product and doesn't have much to do with open source as such.
VA retains control of Sourceforge, correct ? The LWN coverage has an
interesting link to the history of Sourceforge fork.

That's news for me and I'm unaware of the accuracy.
I meant the Sourceforge is now moving to different hands. The reason
for me sharing this information is, more companies are showing
interest to adopt or encourage open source community. Obviously they
have commercial reasons for do this and it is one of the marketing
tactic to advertise their product.
For instance, Canonical is improving its launchpad community web site
tremendously. They do their own version control system, issue tracker,
polling system and many other components integrated in the web site.
If we closely watch the improvement, we get a feel that their
intention is to make it as a product for commercial reasons.
