For ADSL either you have to use PPPoE or PPPoA. There is no other choice.
Usually the ISP's RAS equipment may goof up leading to this.
And how often PPPoE goes up and down depends on the ISP.
When I used to live in Mambalam it used to be really really rare but now
in Tambaram I see it more often.
But this is not something that you can control from your end.
Hope I have put things in proper perspective.
Your phone line could be made noise free. Other than that this problem
has nothing to do with software on your end. Usually that is.
