There are reasons for this (and hopefully the discussion will not diverge):
1. They are not highly paid. So, they have no interest to come forward
to take initiative.
2. Intra-, Inter-departmental ego/politics.
3. Also the fact that when external folks like us take initiative and
come to teach the students, the faculty feel they are being
isolated/pushed to a corner, because:
- "interested students" directly learn from us, without a need for a faculty.
- they don't understand that there is no hierarchy in a FOSS work culture.
But, then they haven't take any initiative in the first place to
learn, and teach their students.
In spite of these, there are also exceptional faculty who dedicate
their work for the values of FOSS, and for the benefit of students.
