Actually, we have the opposite option "Split table cells" (in Editing choices, added in version 8.5), which is on by default. If you simply switch it off, then cells are not split over page breaks. In versions prior to 8.5 this was controlled using the "-j" commandline option (see the !Run file). Support for table cell splitting is still experimental and as your observations show it is not quite as reliable as it could be. It used to be enabled by default in 7.11 so I have left it that way.
