Hi, I really love the streaming media. Really a cool update guys. I agree as well. I liked hearing how far the clock was adjusted. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kevin Jones" <kevin@xxxxxxxxxxx>

I have to agree, I really liked it telling me how far the time was adjusted. I can't see any good reason t oremove it.

I received my Icon just this past monday, and upgraded to 0.9.3 today (just hours ago); my point in mentioning this is to say that I had not had extensive experience with version 0.9.2, but clearly 0.9.3 is a very welcome improvement. I am particularly happy about the fact that this latest version fixes the bug with the recorder where I had to go into file explorer to play back my recordings. I'm also very happy about another glitch with the word processor which has now been fixed. With version 0.9.2, I wrote the folowing text (note the punctuation):

Hello John: How are you doing? I am doing fine.

Now, with the previous version, when scrolling backwards to the beginning of that text, whether by words or characters, the icon simply would not recognize anything prior to the colon; either it wasn't being recognized, or somehow that backwards review trashed everything before the colon. I was going to comment about this, but no need now.

And with particular references to the changes, Michael wrote:

[JMJ]: "We now speak the software version after system startup."

Hmmm, that's not happening with my unit; no big deal; that information can always be accessed via the menu system, but my icon does not announce the version number upon boot-up.

[JMJ]: "We added a sleep timer to the general settings item."

Sweet!!!

And,

[JMJ]: "We now don't announce the number of seconds by which the clock was adjusted when synchronizing with the internet."

Gee, why remove that announcement? I rather liked receiving that information. Okay, strictly speaking, there's no real significance to that information, except to telegraph the fact that the icon's clock wouldn't even remotely pass muster as a time standard, <smile>! That having been said, though, I didn't by the Icon for use as a time reference, and its easy enough to pull the time off the internet when you need or want the unit's time setting to be extremely accurate.

Again, this is a very nice, and even after only having the unit for two days, a very welcome upgrade.

Keep up the fine work!

John

Subject: [icon-discuss] 0.9.3 released

Hello everyone,

The news you have all been waiting for. Release 0.9.3 is now available.
Below are the changes in this release and the known issues.

I think you are going to like this release.

General
Speech settings weren't being backed up. They wil be now.
We now speak the software version after system startup.
We added a sleep timer to the general settings item.
We turned off abbreviation processing in the speech engine. No more
decibels directory or south dakota cards.
The manual is now in Daisy format. This means that when you press help to
open the manual, you can now press pound to navigate through the manual.
there are still some places where pressing help doesn't take you to the
right place in the manual. Please report these so we can fix them.
Cutting and pasting from books and read only documents in the word processor
didn't always work. this should be fixed.
There was a bug that caused searching through documents and books, as well
as opening the navigation view by pressing pound to be very slow. this
should be fixed now.
We now don't announce the number of seconds by which the clock was adjusted
when synchronizing with the internet.
We now don't allow the unit to enter disk drive mode if another application
is using the hard drive.
We now don't allow the unit to enter disk drive mode if the hard disk or
flash disk is too full.

Added Grade II support in text fields.
End at end of paragraph now moves beyond the last character, instead of to
the last character.
improved go to end; moving back by line to the previous paragraph now leaves
you at the beginning of the line segment instead of the end.
got the alarm manager to start more reliably.
Manual updates

Word Processor:

We've added Grade II support. this means you can enter and review documents
in Grade II using thumb Braille.
We now remember the last directory you were using when opening or saving
documents.
Braille text is spoken with a different voice.
* Saving a file in the word processor as a .brf file causes text to be
translated into Braille.

Media Player

Fixed the random stopping issues.
Properly clean up media cache when starting and stopping the player.

News Stand

The wording was changed to make things more clear. Now, the menu item to
add a periodical to the list is called "add a periodical" instead of
subscribe. After selecting an issue from the list, the periodical settings are presented, allowing you to select how many days to keep backissues, and
whether you want to subscribe to this periodical.
It is now possible to delete individual issues, and remove periodicals from
the list.
There are now menu items to check all periodicals or simply check for new
issues for the current periodical.
The unsubscribe and resubscribe menu items were removed, and now there is
simply a periodical settings form which allows you to subscribe and
unsubscribe from a periodical, as well as modify how long you wish to keep
backissues.
Automatic deletion of old issues is now working.

RSS Reader

We've added top and Bottom sounds on Feed List
Spelling & Repeat work in Feed List
Update Folder Feeds added
Better handling of RSS feeds whose items have no dates.
Deleting podcasts is now possible by pressing star when pointing to a
podcast.
Added complete sound when RSS downloads complete.
RSS downloads that time-out will gracefully stop.
Import and Export OPML support
Updated default feeds.
Fix delete folder and feed bug
Add the ability to move feeds or folders.

File Explorer

Create new folder refreshes the current list.
Rename file allows editing of old name.

Planner

Fixed planner attachment bugs.

Console

Fixed various keyboard handling issues.
To exit, choose exit from the menu.

Email

Email has the ability to allow the user to enter a different name for an
attachment when saving. Attachment save form remembers last directory.
Attempting to remove an email account didn't work. This is now fixed.

Network Manager

bug fix where scrolling over profiles very fast would not present the
correct connection information.
Correctly display connection status for wireless profiles.

Browser

if the only way to extract text information from a link is by the file name
of an image then do so.
Properly read buttons with images.
Browser find feature added
Added goto top of page in the browser (pres 2).
Added browser tabs support. This means that we now properly handle sites that open other sites in new windows, and it also means that you can open
and switch between multiple pages.
The browser now begins reading pages automatically.
Don't start continuous read after a find.
don't stop reading when the volume keys are pressed.
Added new voices for text, links, graphics, etc.
These settings can be modified to suit each user.
basic google web search macro
Mp3 streams can now be played directly from the browser.

Recorder

The recording destination from the recording settings form was eliminated.
To select where a recording is placed, simply arrow to the appropriate
recording list and press OK to start recording.
Recording to mini SD is now possible.
Audio skipping when recording to the hard drive should now be eliminated.

Known issues

1. Turning off disk drive mode while wireless is on seems to hang the Icon requiring a reset. Any testing to verify this would be very helpful. Disk
drive mode seems to turn off OK when wireless is off.

2. Automatic deletion of periodicals seems to fail on the first periodical
in the list. Again, testing to confirm this would be helpful.

3. The news stand will exit if you try to read a different periodical from
where you started.

4. There are skips in recordings made to the mini SD card.

5. We still have issues with some ID3 tags.

6. Brf files are not reading properly.

Take care,
