Thanks for the note Marc. When you get your beacon up and running, I will listen for you. We are a bit close for skip and far for groundwave. You may hear VA3KAH on 29.172 from Georgian Bay during the summer. Or VE3DJI on .164 in the winter. I am currently testing an end fed half wave vertical. The band is certainly hot this year and I am glad that I got it running. A beacon is simple to set up - just get a used HTX or equivalent from E-Bay($100), a pico keyer kit ($17), 12 volt PS ($50) and hang a dipole anywhere. I was amazed that when testing my beacon with the dipole just hung over a couple of saw horses Bill WJ5O heard me. I have hit Germany with 137 mW last week. Wow! Again, thanks for posting and your explanation Marc. 73 Ian From: hfbeacons-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:hfbeacons-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Marc Kulbacki Sent: December-06-13 11:15 AM To: hfbeacons@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [HFbeacons] Re: 05-Dec-13 Beacons in the Detroit area Hi Ian, I'm running out the door but just wanted to say I'm pleased to meet you and I'm over-the-top jazzed by your IOTA beacon and the pictures and the writeup!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well done Ian! Never has an HTX-100 been so honoured! :) Very briefly, the numbers are the GMT hour that I did a band sweep looking for beacons. So yesterday I scanned the band at 21:00, 22:00 and 23:00 GMT. Certainly not a dumb question. Bill, WJ5O had the same, especially after he saw the numbers spanning nine hours last Sunday. Yup, I wanted to see what the band did from open to sundown. It worked out well. It takes me about half an hour to cover the band and on the back nine I had little projects to do around the house. A very pleasant day actually. It's an experiment in progress and I'll explain in more detail a little later. I intend to run a beacon too. I've always wanted to. 73 for now - m ----- Original Message ----- From: Ian Baines <mailto:va3kah@xxxxxxxxx> To: hfbeacons@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, December 06, 2013 8:39 AM Subject: [HFbeacons] Re: 05-Dec-13 Beacons in the Detroit area Marc: I am fascinated by your reporting format. It is very easy to read and nice to look at. Good work. But a dumb question, if you will. what do the numbers on the left (white on green) mean?
