OK, gang, I've made the suggested changes.

I have discussed this with the NO and they say it is no problem to host it on
the USA Fencing website. I would counter Brian's suggestion that we just send
out an email to the folks on the hire list by saying this allows folks to
volunteer to work that would be excluded from that email. This way it reaches
the entire membership.

I am also talking to Sharon Everson on what their process is for hiring and how
they use their form, etc.

Mergs let me look at the first version of this. It sends email to him. I
personally think that if that's all it does, then just asking armorers to send
email to Mergs with the required info is all we need, but he likes the form.
Okay with me.
I agree with all of your comments.

Hello,

I like the overall idea of the availability form, but I
have a few thoughts on the presentation and particular content. I’ll try to
keep them short and organized :)

1) I think there should be a clear statement at the
beginning that says something like “This is for the Head Techs information
purposes only, and does not guarantee that you will be hired nor does it give
you hiring preference.” Just so that we don’t have anyone whining at us later
that they filled it out so they should have been picked first.

2) The rating section seems a little weird to me.
At one time there was a little used but official rating/level system in armory
but this is certainly not that. Maybe phase it more along the lines of ‘I have
previously worked as’ or ‘I am interested in being’.

3)
I would emphasis the different sections
(National, Domestic,…) more. Bigger and bolder so that they are actually
noticeable.
Right now that notation gets lost but it is important.

4)
In my mind it would be best to remove or have
the International Team trips on a separate form. That is such a completely
different job from all the rest of the tournament where we are set up and
control,
it seems very strange to have them listed here together. They also have a
different set of requirements (like a passport). At least some indication that
it is a very different thing would be good, especially if this form is to be
used by volunteers or newbies.

5) For Nationals, as Ted mentioned absolutely separate
it into first half and second half, maybe include a note that even if you are
available
for both halves you can only work one.

6)
In terms of the back end:

a. I
agree that it should be officially hosted on either the USFA (or maybe FOC)
website.

b. Where/Who
does this form or the data from it go?

c. Does
the form send an automatic ‘receipt’ when submitted? I for one hate submitting
something online and having no verification or proof that it was received.
Requiring a person to do that leaves too many loopholes, so an automatic return
would be best.

d. This
could solve b and c, can the data be fed automatically into a publicly viewable
table/database? Means the submitter could check it was received, the head techs
could see the list without bothering anyone, and the USFA wouldn’t have to
constantly
manage it.

Hope that helps.

Irene

No problem. Anyone else have any input? If not, I am going to imply that
silence is consent.

Good point, Ted. I can easily fix that. As for distribution, since it will be
on the USA Fencing website, it should have
open access to whomever wants to volunteer.

Mergs,
I thought we said that we were not going allow people to do all
the days of the Summer Nationals?

If we are going to use this form, we need to make it available
to anyone who might consider volunteering for competitions, not the just the
people who are already on
the list of armorers.

All,

Here is a draft of an availability form for Armorers that is based on the one
the FOC uses for referees. It would be hosted on the USA Fencing site or my
site. Not sure where the data would go, but we can get with the NO to
coordinate that. This will give
the HTs a better idea of who is available and help 'spread the love'.

Please let me know what you think and if we need to add/subtract items.

Thanks.
