As I recall, it happened previously with another app, at which point
someone pointed out that I was probably not using the correct version
of
subversion and didn't have the npipefs add-on installed. So I fixed
that and tried again. That's when I ran into the problem with
abouthaiku. If I'm remembering correctly, there was some discussion
about the fact that this problem only seemed to happen on Zeta, not
R5.
At that point, someone offered up a solution or work around and that
got
the build going again on my machine.

Just comment out the problematic line in the src/apps/abouthaiku
Jamfile.

This problem should now be fixed. The actual cause was jam not being able to deal with a command invoking multiple sub-processes (AboutHaiku manages to create several sub-processes by piping several commands together).

Adam, could you please confirm whether or not you can now build AboutHaiku on Zeta with the original Jamfile, too?

Yep, it works fine now. Thanks! :-)

Sorry, I don't mean to interrupt everyone's ranting and raving :-)

Just wanted to point out that there's another 'waif child' lying around in the build:

Creating image ...
80+0 records in
80+0 records out
init_cache_for_device(3, 81920)
remove_cached_device_blocks(3, 1)
Writing boot code to "generated/haiku.image" (partition offset: 0 bytes) ...
writing 512 bytes at offset 0
writing 348 bytes at offset 676
Populating image ...
Deleting old MIME database ...
Installing MIME database ...
Unmounting ...
waif child found!

Seems to be non-fatal, as the image is built and works, but I thought it might be a good idea to point it out.

Also, I had previously mentioned that Haiku was failing to boot on this machine... I got it working. For some reason, I had to use the "map" grub command to map the Haiku partition of (hd1,2) to (hd0,0).
