[openbeos] CVS and SSH -- which versions?

On the OBOS resources page --> CVS tutorial page, it says to use
cv1.10.8-bin.tgz from geekgadgets ( it's around a 1 MB file)
but there's a newer one at bebits
http://www.bebits.com/app/1610 (version 1.11+1)
which is (strangely, to me) about half the size.
Was there some issue about one working better with SF?
Is the newer one missing something?

Which one is preferred? Is this 'DES' required/useful here?
