I would prefer not to too, since it is less reliable than my trusty R5, but
that doesn't boot at all on the new hardware.

It's a Gigabyte 965G-DS3 "Ultra Durable S-Series". Using a "lowly" Core 2
Duo. I don't know what it uses for a SATA chipset.
