Wow, I like it. Very subtle changes, but they make the controls stand
out a little more from the rest. Gives it a very modern look. I agree a
theming engine will be nice later, but considering the resources
available for Haiku, tweaking the current UI to look a little better
will be the way to go.
I'm not sure if this possible, but perhaps you can make the gradients
behind everything configurable. (By simply enabling/disabling them)
