Hi Niels, you convince me, so I am at least neutral for now. I still believe that the unified system (under our control), with a preference applet (again under our control), could have its adventages. That being said, I do see your points. One problem in your argumentation which I can still see, is that the lack of the unified notification system, which encourages the developers to find their own solutions, does not say anything about what particular solution they eventually come up with, and if it would satisfy your/our expectations. I mean to say: Yes, having the system in place might encourage to misuse it. But the other way around... having it not in place, is no gurantee that the individual alternative solution which people come up with, will be satisfactory. I'm sure this is not what you claimed, but I hope you see how it weakens your argument somewhat. This is not to say that you shouldn't feel more than welcome to implement all these individual notifications like you proposed... :-) Best regards, -Stephan
