 I see they just fall back to application/octet-stream, which is hardly
 useful.

 From my uderstanding, it's perfectly OK to invent a mimetype for local
 use, as long as it uses the "x-" prefix.  We can add it to our local set
 without offending anyone else.

 After that, though, comes the icon... (:-/)  At the moment I'm blank on
 what that should look like.
