Subject: [gps-talkusers] Question about alpha characters in an address field

Hello everyone,

I am trying to get a handle on how big this issue really is.

I know that in Wisconsin for example there are a number of addresses
which have letters in the address portion of an address, which
currently our software doesn't handle.
Example: (which was submitted to us)
w234 n5948 Lilac Drive
Sussex WI 53089
I did try that above address in Google maps and didn't find the
specific address either so I am really confused now.

So does this mean that all address lookups in Sendero GPS in
Wisconsin fails? Do only 10% of addresses fail, or its about 50/50 or what?

Sendero realizes this is an issue just like we realize there is an
issue with Roundabouts but again we have to priorities things.

I also want to say that this alpha/numeric issue is as big of a code
change as UK roundabouts if not more. I also want to say that the
fix for handling alpha characters in addresses will occur at the same
time where we revamp the entire address indexing/searching portion of
the code. It doesn't make sense for me to spend a ton of time fixing
something I will be ripping out when we finally handle zipcode
address searching for example. So please be patient as there is a
method to our madness (smile).
Now this doesn't mean once we handle alpha numeric addresses we will
have zipcode indexing but steps have to be taken down a new path to
handle both of these highly sot after features. They may occur
together or may not, all I am saying is this is a HUGE code change
bigger than anything we have done previously and when we finally do
this we want to do it right.

Thanks
Charles
