Hey Sushi,

Glad to hear you've made some progress!

From what i understand you have a game in mind already of what you
want to make right?

Here's my advice, but of course take it with a grain of salt because
everyone has a different style of what works for them (:

What you might want to do is sit down and write down all the things
you want in your game and then figure out what each thing would entail
(ie what kind of ai you'd need for certain things etc) and then make
up a schedule for yourself for what order you want to do things in.

For instance you might have something like this...

1) Get 3D Models importing so the game can have models in it.
2) Get Terrain and environment importing in so the game can have levels
3) Get the basic physics working
4) Put in enemies with basic AI
5) Get the basic UI in
6) Get the world built and the art assets made (big task!)
7) Refine AI
8) Refine UI
9) Get other people to play the game and adjust things based on their
input and fix bugs
10) General Polish

Then what you do is start on item 1 and work your way to item 10,
learning whatever you might need to learn to get each thing done.

From what I understand, a lot of games that go overbudget or off of
schedule may start out with a plan like that, but the game diverges
from the plan and the schedule no longer reflects reality. At that
point the concept of "being done" is really nebulous and you might not
ever make it (boy have i made that mistake a bunch on my own games!!).

If you do want to change something mid development, make up a new
schedule and stick to the new one so you still have a focused goal.

Even though you don't really have a budget or a time limit to make
this game in, you might want to pretend as though you do and give
yourself a deadline for when each thing has to be done. if you do
that, you'll be more prepared and have more experience for if you end
up working at a company doing this for a living, or if your game gets
big and you decide to start up your own shop and go pro that way.

Just my 2 cents, congratulations on your progress man!
