***This is a message from a member of Friends of Students for 60,000***

Hello all-
As many of you know I spent the 17-27 in Chacraseca holding parent meetings at
9 of the sectors 13 schools in regards to the comedor program. I was joined at
these meetings by Conchita, Emily Sendin of the Chacra-Miami Project and a
college Friend Anna Desousa. The following represents my notes from each of the
meetings.. I have several personal thoughts interspersed. I want people to get
this info read it and respond with questions.. In the interest of time i am
sending it out in this format. please give feedback ask questions asap... The
last four schools will be met with in the end of July.

Maryknoll
The parents need to participate and collaborate monthly
If they are not cooking they Need to be paying a bit each month
Donate a bit of the food from your own harvest
2 mothers cook volunteer.. For a period to ensure there is food every day..
10 cordobas monthly per family (not per student)
Market Days last Tuesday the 22nd approx. 180 intact eggs arrived at the
school. (once a week at all schools we will have "market day" where each child
will bring in an egg or some sort of fruit or veggies to vary the monotony of
rice and beans)
110 families 250 students
Approx 80 familes present
Renting 3.5 manzanas 350 dollars in total
Land is far.. 350 is a sure thing...
This is a base problem.. The economic situation in the community makes it
difficult for this program to grow...
When this is info fact the only "solid" meal that people are eating daily it
makes the situation difficult..
Single mothers with all the responsibility of managing the family..
But on the other hand the people live in deplorable conditions but have bikes
tvs stereos...

San Ramon
This program is fantastic.. His children come home full.. At home there is not
much to eat.. In the morning coffee and bread sometimes only coffee... (from a
parent)
They need to be contributing money (perhaps 10 cords monthly) (this was agreed
upon)
There seems to be poor communication in this comedor..
We need more security in this comedor...
Only one mother is cooking cause parents do not show up.. She is volunteering
without pay...
But some parents are saying that if i was asked i would participate (cook)
The woman that cooks can not offer things like wood cooking oil etc so she
volunteers
The kitchen was robbed about 2 months ago and the utensils have not been
replaced...
They did not cook last week because there was no firewood..
5 cord a month would provide 3 months of wood (per family)
Put a garden at the school (perhaps JMU) could contribute the $$
14 parents and Andrea the teacher out of 22 parents 40 children
The school needs to be fenced in as well.
The parents have agreed to pay 10 cordobas monthly to cover the cost of wood
and additional alimentation...
firewood was purchased on Tuesday 6.22

Concepcion
45 families 85 students...
There is one day a month where they are eating well.. There is a woman that
comes daily to sell and she pays 100 cordobas with that money they buy chicken
for one day a month..
They want to grow a garden here at the school.. But the animals create a
problem...
There are not sufficient utensils and plates for everyone to eat at the same
time...
The 4-6 graders are going to participate in the garden program.. The fence is
the obstacle..
Parents are cooking or paying someone to replace them....
They are provided with the 50 pounds of sugar..
The school has plenty of fire wood...
24 parents present..
Up until two years ago they were planting.. One of the issues is only 8
families were participating in the planting and this caused issues which led
to the decision to rent instead of plant...
They will begin to plant at home and give a little fruit, veggies eggs etc.
This school seems to be organized better then most.. Participation is good the
program Is functioning as expected but with stronger parent participation
things will improve..

Mojon Sur II
This comedor needs utencils and various cooking implements can we buy a parcel
of land..
i think it is crucial that each school has land so there is a balance and
equitable distribution on the program.
28 parents present
100 kids 66 parents
2 mothers cook daily they bring things from the house to compliment the rice
and beans...
No tierra so this limits the ability to create funds.
A garden is in the works (we need maya miami-Dade funds?)
Parents will contribute 5 cords a month (plus one for gas and one for water)
Students for 60k will need to provide an armoire to ensure the stuff is
secured.. (50 dollars?)

Mojon sur i Jose Dolores 3
2 big tables two small tables etc etc... 3 manzanas they are thinking of
renting it as well because it is too far... (last year 1000 cord a mz.)The
comedor cannot be used for storage... The kids are eating daily but the food is
being cooked at home each kid brings a cup and glass every day... The stove was
destroyed... 100 percent of the parents are participating and the children are
eating daily... Parents 5 cords monthly sch
25 parents
80 children 51 families
The kitchen is damaged and the parents are cooking at home..
95% of the parents are cooking and the rotation is working well..
This comedor needs renovation.. (will get a proposal to fix this comedor) ANNA
PLEASE SEND PICTURES
The kitchen needs to be made bigger and better with proper ventilations..
They are renting the land for 1200 cords a manzana and using this fund for
purchasing food..
When a parent can not come someone is paid to cook the food..
The 50% that are here are the ones that are always at the meetings..
Some of the parents do not cook well (like they don't care)
We should paint this school
Needs latrines... Make a deal (90% participation we do the work in december)

Paraiso
70 students 45 parents 25 present
1 yuca manzana is being harvested 2240 was the profit..
1 wAs rented 2000 cordobas(last year)
2.5 manzanas yuca... .5 is unusable 2 rented 2000 cords each...
1000 cordobas to make the tumbola (but will it make profit?)
The parents seem to be working well on the land and the kitchen rotation..
They eat the rice and beans every day.. Gets boring.. One day a week buying
meat..
The parents are paying the preschool teacher (13 students 20 cords each) plus
the mined 500
This is taxing with a lack of work... Getting a monthly payment here might be
difficult..e
They have a garden (may Miami dade) squash and carrots.. (the evil eye is
affecting the harvest)
Ivan helps with fire wood and the parents bring some when there is a shortage..
9 cows and Ivan is in charge of them... No milk at the moment..
The kids eat outside of the comedor which is why utensils disappear.. Hence the
kids bring plates etc from home every day.. (armoire would not solve this)
New classroom being built as a preschool classroom and then the comedor will be
used in its proper purpose..
Parents will donate one egg a week kids will eat eggs (Wednesdays)
1 cord monthly for water..

Alberto barrios
40 parents present
183 elementary students 110 parents
Rotation of parents for grade... For cooking
ANF is not helping this school..

consistent
When a mother cannot make the cooking day they pay another woman 30 cordobas to
cook

They are growing beans as well.. Fruits and other stuffs are being donated..
There is a garden but it is not closed with a fence..
New comedor is secure..
