DHCP: In a word, don't, unless you really have a good reason to. You shouldn't need to on a lab/test network. Not worth the hassle for a test, and you sure don't want the IP address being yanked out from under you in production. /etc/netmasks: No need to edit unless you have non-default netmasks (e.g., more than 24 bits for a 192.168). Mine has nothing in it and the system figured it out. It can be as simple as choosing a hostname (don't use the same one as your WP letterbug), entering it into a /etc/hostname.<if> file, where <if> is the hardware name of your interface, making an entry for the WP and the APC box in the WP's /etc/hosts file, maybe "ifconfig <if> plumb"-ing the interface, then rebooting.
