Dear Paul, Use the helpful hint HH874 HH874: If during the boot process, the AW displays the message "/etc/saf/_sactab file is corrupted", this causes the wtmpx and wtmp files to grow every minute and the final result is that the capacity of the var partition will be 100% full in a short time. Solution: 1. Verify that the wtmp and wtmpx files are increasing their size every minute. Example: # cd /var/adm # ls -l wt* -rw-rw-r-- 1 adm adm 3267584 Apr 11 12:36 /var/adm/wtmp -rw-rw-r-- 1 adm adm 162936 Apr 11 12:36 /var/adm/wtmpx One minute later, repeat the same command # ls -l wt* -rw-rw-r-- 1 adm adm 3267800 Apr 11 12:37 /var/adm/wtmp -rw-rw-r-- 1 adm adm 165168 Apr 11 12:37 /var/adm/wtmpx 2. Check that sac user exits. Example: # who -a NAME LINE TIME IDLE PID COMMENTS . system boot Apr 11 09:04 . run-level 3 Apr 11 09:04 3 0 S rc2 . Apr 11 09:09 3:26 54 id=s2 term=0 exit=0 root + pts/1 Apr 11 09:05 . 523 rc3 . Apr 11 09:09 3:26 1254 id=s3 term=0 exit=0 sac . Apr 11 12:31 3:2 11148 id=sc term=0 exit=3 LOGIN console Apr 11 09:09 3:23 1281 root + pts/2 Apr 11 09:18 . 1837 .rlogin /dev/pts/3 Apr 11 12:13 10519 id=rl10 term=0 exit=0 root + pts/3 Apr 11 12:30 . 11355 3. Verify that the _sactab is corrupted. Example: # cd /etc/saf # sacadm -l /etc/saf/_sactab file is corrupt 4. If the /etc/saf/_sactab file is corrupted then: A) Copy the _sactab file from a good AW51 or B) Make this file, which contains the following information: # VERSION=1 zsmon:ttymon::0:/usr/lib/saf/ttymon # tcp:listen::0:/usr/lib/saf/listen tcp # C) If you make the _sactab file, you must verify its permissions and the owner, as follows: Example: # cd /etc/saf # ls -l _sactab -r--r--r-- 1 root root 93 Jun 5 15:54 _sactab 5. Reboot the AW. 6. Check that "/etc/saf/_sactab is corrupted" message does not appear during the boot process (This message appears when the monitor has the white color.) 7. Verify that the wtmp and wtmpx files are not increasing their size every minute. Example: # ls -l wt* -rw-rw-r-- 1 adm adm 3268988 Apr 11 12:48 wtmp -rw-rw-r-- 1 adm adm 177444 Apr 11 12:48 wtmpx Wait a minute and repeat the same command # ls -l wt* -rw-rw-r-- 1 adm adm 3268988 Apr 11 12:48 wtmp -rw-rw-r-- 1 adm adm 177444 Apr 11 12:48 wtmpx 8. Run the sacadm -l command to verify the status of the port monitors. # sacadm -l PMTAG PMTYPE FLGS RCNT STATUS COMMAND zsmon ttymon - 0 ENABLE /usr/lib/saf/ttymon # tcp listen - 0 ENABLE /usr/lib/saf/listen tcp # 9. Use the solution of the HH739 to initialize the utmp, utmpx, wtmp and wtmpx files. Please note: When executing this command be sure no other users are logged into the system. In VT100 # cd /var/adm # cp /dev/null utmp # cp /dev/null wtmp # cp /dev/null wtmpx # cp /dev/null utmpx Note: If you want to know more about Service Access Controller (SAC), then you can get more information in the manual pages of the Sun Operating System.
