[fgmlug] Offline updates of Ubuntu

I mentioned this to Goose Thursday so thought I should post it to the list.

This is a method of upgrading a Ubuntu system that has no Internet connection. 
It will probably be useful for the FGM warehouse until we get a Internet 
connection set up.

Mount a USB thumb drive.

Open Synaptic.
Click on the "Reload" button to refresh the package information to the latest 
packages.
Click on the "Mark All Upgrades" button.
Open the File menu in Synaptic.
Click on "Generate Package Download Script".
Choose a name, for example "update"
and a location on a USB thumb drive.
Click on the "Save" button.
Close Synaptic.

Open a terminal
Type "sudo -i" (w/o quotes) to get a root prompt.
change to the directory on the thumb drive that contains the "update" (or 
whatever you called it) script.
Execute the "update" script by typing "./update" (no quotes).
After the script runs all of the packages for the upgrade should be in the 
directory with the "update" script.

Unmount the USB thumb drive

Move the drive to the system to be updated.
Mount the USB drive.

Open Synaptic.
Open the file menu.
click on "Add downloaded packages".
Navigate to the location on the thumb drive where all the packages were 
downloaded and install all of the packages.

Unmount the drive and got to the next system and repeat
