Is there any easy way to change firewall settings in network from one
center? Something kind of like group policy

Rubbish

The XP firewall stops all sorts of domain communications, and I personally
do not want to sit at 500 individual workstations to find out which
applications and protocols are required.

I don't think I'd agree with that statement. Or, I partially agree.

The firewall can and does interfere with some applications - and you want to
understand and fully test your company's business applications to determine
what - if any - tweaking is required to enable those applications in your
environment.

But saying you should disable the firewall? I disagree. Defense in depth
is a well documented approach, and one more layer is a good thing. is the
firewall in WinXP perfect? Far from it (what is?). But having it enabled is
a good thing. It's just important to understand what requirements you have
and address them appropriately.

If you are using Windows XP Professional in a corporate environment, you
should have the firewall disabled as that will interfere with a lot of
domain things.
