Happen to me once in the Ex5.5 days. First this user exceed her quota, then
she delete most
of her mails, somehow the mailbox size never reduced. She only left with
abt 10 mails
but mailbox says she used up 10 MB. Strange thing is in the Exchange
Administrator also
shows 10 M and export mailbox out to a pst file is also 10M.

At the end I can never solve this. Have to backup her mailbox into a pst
file, create a new
mailbox for her and import back from the pst. Strange thing is after
importing the mailbox
size is correct.

Just share my experience I never found the actual cause. What I know later
is that
Ex5.5 when delete an items, it just mark it as hidden and release the quota
back to
the mailbox. The hidden items is keep for the retention period set at the
Information Store.
I suspect for some reason the quota is not released by Exchange. Not sure
why.
May be there is a way for solving this.

http://www.MSExchange.org/

Hi all,

We have exchange server 5.5 SP4 in windows NT 4.0 SP6a. We put a mailbox
limit size and some users exceed that size so they can't receive any mail.
The problem even after we delete old messages from their mailboxes the
problem still exist and by checking the Mailbox resources--> total K the
mailbox size is much more than the actual messages appear in the users
outlook. I need your help to solve this problem.

Thanks in advance.

Ashraf
