Hello, When you back up a database you have to count priv.edb, priv.stm and any existing log files. So that likely explains the difference between the 7 Gbytes and the 6.1 Gbytes. Now to answer your first question: Unless you take the database offline and use ESEUTIL /d <database name> the databases will tend to grow with time. This is due to the fact that the online maintenance programs will not recover unused buckets in the database. However keep in mind that buckets will be re-used when ever possible. Unless disk space is really critical I wouldn't do a defrag as part of "normal" maintenance, during this process the database in unavailable to your users. Currently the size that is displayed for the priv.edb using windows explorer is 6,110,728kb. (about 6.1gb) however after reviewing the size of mailboxes in Exchange system manager I doesn't look like my priv.edb file should be nearly that size. It should be something more like 4 or 5 gb. Do I need to compress my priv.edb? What exactly is happening? (Also when backing up with veritas, there is actually about 7gb which is being backed up, I'm assuming this is because of the verify which needs to run) Thanks in advance, John _____ Do you Yahoo!?
