Rich, If your doing this for testing at home or something, maybe it'll work. If this is in a business environment you NEED to setup a hardware firewall solution to protect your entire network infastructure, not just a server or two. There are many choices for hardware firewalls, the Nokia IP380s and Nokia IP440s are very good and when used together give you a nice dual wall with DMZ setup. If your users require the Outlook client to connect from the internet somewhere then your going to have to provide them with some type of VPN solution. If they simply need access to their email and calendar then you can easily give them OWA access from within the DMZ. I was going to look into Zone Alarm but I wasn't sure how Exchange-friendly it was. _____ From: John T (Lists) [mailto:johnlist@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, January 19, 2006 10:39 AM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: Exchange and the Windows Firewall Sensitivity: Private http://www.MSExchange.org/ Microsoft did themselves a disservice by adding the Windows Firewall to the server products. You should not be using the Windows Firewall on a server. You HAVE to get a full featured firewall to protect your network and servers. When I activated the firewall, I thought I allowed all the proper exceptions but I was not able to connect with Outlook. I know that port selection is dynamic in a lot of cases but does anyone know of any specific port I should be allowing in order to successfully connect an Outlook client (from the inside of the network, same subnet as the Exchange server)?? Any help anyone would give would be great!
