Javier, Thanks for information. Looks like what our CEO needs is the full fledged functionality of the BES, since from your description it doesn't look like the "cheap" way will be able to synchronized anything like contacts and emails. I have already contacted Blackberry for more information and this was exactly what I was looking for. Brief skeletal description of how the technology works. Right now outside access is strictly through OWA. Thanks, Shawn. -----Original Message----- From: Javier Sola [mailto:jsola@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, December 01, 2005 12:08 PM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: Blackberry and Exchange http://www.MSExchange.org/ Shawn we use Blackberry's with our Exchange environment. There are many options depending on how much of a budget you got. If you want to go the full route with wireless synchronization and forwarding of emails to your devices my recommendation is to go with Black Berry Enterprise server (BES). It sits on a separate box apart from your exchange server and works as a redirector of your emails. This server pushes out emails as they come in to your exchange server. BES also allows for your devices to synchronize their contacts, calendar appointments, etc, wirelessly without having to physically hardwire into outlook. Any changes made on the device synch with the desktop and vice versa (you can also customize these settings). If you want to go the cheap route then you can just purchase wireless handheld devices from your wireless provider (cingular, tmobile, verizon, etc.) and then just do email forwarding from your exchange server to the handhelds email address. The downside to this workaround is that you won't get full fledged functionality. Look it up, Blackberry enterprise server is made by a company called Research in motion (RIM). http://www.blackberry.com <http://www.blackberry.com/> http://www.rim.com <http://www.rim.com/> You can find all your info on there and they have whitepapers that walk you through installations and best practices. Hope this helps. ________________________________ From: Medeiros, Jose [mailto:jmedeiros@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, December 01, 2005 2:58 PM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: Blackberry and Exchange http://www.MSExchange.org/ Do you have the enterprise server installed? My suggestion would really be to contact their support. Support is free for the first year.
