This student uses an electronic dictionary where no definitions in English
are given. They have only the Hebrew transalation.
Are the book / exam writers aware of this problem?
We teach our Ld kids to use ordinary dictionaries but some find this
extremely difficult. I'd lke to hear your suggestions how the kids are to
handle this if it comes up on the Bagrut.
The only suggestion I have that can be useful immediately is to make sure the
ordinary dictionary has "helpful" features which the pupils know how to use :
* the quick finder (front - inside of cover in the oxford dictionaries, really
old ones don't have it)
* tabs (the kind that "stick out" of the dictionary) that mark the beginning
of each letter of the alphabet. you may think that is redundant if the pupil
knows how to use the quick finder. However, some kids have trouble remembering
the alphabet correctly and that helps.
