HI rick.

This may not resolve all of your USB to Thomas issues. However, here's the
general approach for embossing from DBT through a USB port with a USB to
parallel adapter, as long as you are using DBT 10.5 or above. In the Embosser
setup dialog, you need to tell DBT to send the output to a specified Windows
printer rather than to a specified output port.

To do this, set up a Generic / Text Only printer in Windows that prints to the
"USB virtual printer port" that is created when you set up the USB to parallel
adapter. Then, when creating or editing an Embosser setup in DBT, in the
General properties tab, set the Output options radio button to Send to Printer
(rather than Write to Port), and select the Windows printer that you have set
up for the Thomas.

Some of the tasks above can be tricky. For example, some USB to parallel
adapters work better than others, and sometimes the adapter works only on some
of the computer's parallel ports. That's why tech support is important.

All the best,
Caryn

Rick:

I suggest that you either contact Duxbury technical support or Enabling
technical support,

with your DBT serial number and info such as the version of Windows OS you are
running, Thomas version etc,

Either one of them should be able to get you straightened out quickly.

Also, Enabling has a parallel to usb cable that they have found very reliable.

Subject: [duxuser] USB to Parallel

I'm attempting to connect an older Thomas to a computer using a USB to parallel
converter since the new computer does not have a parallel port. However, it
did not work. One thing, Duxbury setting only allow for a serial or parallel
connection. Does anyone have ideas as to what Duxbury settings I need to look
at? With this cable, does Duxbury automatically see the USb connection as a
parallel connection? I guess I could set up a serial connection, but I try to
avoid setting up serial connections whenever possible. I never check; I assume
the computer has a serial port.
