Hmm, could it be the VIA chipset on the motherboard?  I know VIA chipsets can 
sometimes screw up
stuff big-time.  Gord, perhaps the next time you are talking to Scott Reams, 
you could shoot over
the motherboard specks to him.  He would certainly know if there are any known 
issues with that
particular VIA chipset and other hardware and software.
