Hi HF. Personally, I want the flattest most neutral sound when I'm mixing or mastering. Any of the sub plus satellite systems I've seen, including a really great one from Cambridge Soundworks, have a big hole between the top of the sub's range and the bottom of where the satellites take over. These systems can sometimes have startlingly good high frequency dispursion, but a huge hole in the midrange.

If you must use a sub, try some frequency sweeps from 20HZ to 20KHZ to figure out where any holes might be, and also to see if the sub is turned up too much and dominating the overall sound. Most people overdo it with the bass.

I actually have a related question. After reading a glowing review of the Behringer Truth powered monitors, I'm curious if anybody else has tried them. This was in a $600 or less shoot-out, and the guy gave bad marks to Rolland and even some Tannois.

Chris
