Hello listers,

I am having an unusual problem and hope someone here has some ideas about how
to fix it.

I purchased an m-audio fast track pro from dancing dots to use with sonar and
cake talking 8.5. My korg synthesizer keyboard is connected to it via midi in
and out chords. The fast track pro is connected to my computer via usb ports.
I am running sonar 8.5, cake talking 8.5 with JAWS 11 and windows 7. I don’t
think this is relevant but I also have JAWS 15 on my machine with the new
vocalizer expressive voices that I use when I am not running sonar.

It was running with no major problems Tuesday evening. Wednesday evening I
tried to pull up a project to work on but I couldn’t get any sound from my
keyboard. I did have sound coming from the mixer and I could hear everything
that was already part of the project.

First, I made sure nothing was muted or soloed, nothing was.

Next, I checked the physical wires to make sure the midi ports were connected
correctly, they were.

After that, I exited my project and went into a different one. The same
thing occurred, everything from the pre existing project could be heard, but
nothing could be heard from the keyboard. I loaded 2 more projects with
exactly the same results. I turned off my machine and restarted everything
with exactly the same results in all projects I tried to access.

Next, I went into the options menu found midi devices and made sure that my
fast track was checked, it was.

Friday, my sighted husband informed me that we were receiving a “TBIA invalid
data” error from windows that came up before JAWS even started speaking. So I
do not know how long I have been receiving this message. My husband tried to
research m-audio and learned that others using m-audio products were having
similar error messages about the drivers not being compatible with windows. We
tried calling them but they were away for the holidays plus I don’t know where
the registration codes are and don’t want to pay for new ones just to get help.

More internet browsing taught me that problems exist when new sound devices are
added. I added vocalizer voices, probably not relevant, and my daughter
installed the latest iTunes, also probably not important. We learned that one
possible solution is to do a system restore. We tried that and the data error
has gone away, but the problem with the midi still exists.

Does anyone know some more ideas about how to solve this?

Thanks ahead of time.

Barbie
