Bill.  Yup, this still applies.  You will still want a card with a Texas
instruments firewire chipset.  Note, in some cases, you may get lucky with
the firewire connection on laptops.  For example, I have a Lenovo here which
has a Texas instruments firewire chipset compatible slot and it works great
with all of my Focusrite Firewire devices, and the FW-1884.

That's great, Phil.  In general, is firewire support any simpler under
Windows7?  That is, do you have to take the same precautions when shopping
for your Windows7 DAW to make sure that there will not be firewire
incompatibilities as we did for XP?  It was not enough just to get an XP
machine with a firewire port.  That machine needed to have the Texas
Instruments flavor of firewire or certain firewire devices simply would not
work.
