Several factors affect the noise level from the DAWs.

First, you can get your system with, or without, acoustical foam and noise
cancelation treatment. I usually push customers pretty hard on this when they
order new systems, particularly if they'll be recording in the same room as the
DAW, as it makes the most difference. If you open the side of your tower, and
see that the inside of the door is covered with a sheet of what looks like foam
rubber, then you have the treatment on your machine. Besides the foam, the
treatment includes lots of other mods, such as rubber grombits used on the hard
drives to prevent them from transferring vibration to the case, etc.

Second are the fans. The standard fans are fairly quiet, but you can faintly
hear them running. The upgraded fans are extremely quiet. Not everyone opts to
upgrade the fans, though.

Lastly, though, is overclocking. People that overclock are usually trying to
get more bang for their buck. For example, you can, with overclocking, get a
3.6Ghz processor for slightly more than the cost of an unoverclocked 3Ghz
processor. These overclocked systems run stable, and are completely covered by
a warranty, so it's quite safe to go this route. However, they generate lots of
heat. Without spending a large amount of money, it is harder to cool them and
maintain dead silence. On the other hand, if you want the highest speed
possible, and aren't looking to spend another $1,500 or more to upgrade to the
higher speed processor and cooling options, then it is better to overclock and
put the computer in to an iso cabinit.

Even the unupgraded systems are still very quiet, as compared to a typical
office PC. When it comes to the upgraded systems, though, you can barely tell
that they're on without putting your ear up to them.

It is possible that something is set incorrectly on your system, though. If you
ordered treatment, upgraded fans, and didn't overclock, then you may have a fan
with a bad sensor, or some other oddity. Please give us a call, so that we can
check it out for you.

Shawn,

Call their tech support. Your Processor cooling fan may be set too high.
Make sure they know the issue, and I'm sure they'll help you out.

Water under the bridge, but when I configured my DAW on-line with ADK I
purposely chose the quietest fans available even if they cost a bit more.

Hi Dave,

The cost for this pup was $2390, I would have thought that would have
covered everything. Even on the front of the unit it boasts of being quiet.
That's just not true though...

I guess you get what you get for $2390, and apparently lack of noise isn't
covered in that price...
