you sure can, I guess its just a matter of preference. The tascam, and Project mix are both great units, and work really well with Sonar. ----- Original Message ----- From: Phil Muir To: ddots-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Saturday, October 07, 2006 12:47 PM Subject: [ddots-l] Re: Mackie Onyx with Firewire You can do that with the FW1884 too. Sorry, but i'm not familiar at all with the taskam, so my questions about it are going to be somewhat rudamentary. It has good pre-amps, and has automated faders. It's a really nice sound card and control surface. Also, you could add more inputs to it, at a later date, by purchasing some extra personas pre-amps for it. It's been suggested to me by a salesman that the higher end mixers have good pre amps built into them. I'm in the process of purchasing all new equipment for the studio because I'm scheduled to train with Gord in November. So I'm just asking all these questions now so I know what to buy and so I can have everything here and ready to go by the time he gets here. I guess that for now, it's the digital conversion thats in question here. Thanks. Hard to say whether you would achieve better results with that over the Delta. Unless, the preamps that you have attached to your delta aren't as good as the Mackie ones or, the digital converters in the Macki, are better than the Delta's. He says the firewire card can become replacement for the delta 44 soundcard that i'm currently using. He says that I'll get much better quality when converting to digital with the firewire card that comes with the onyx mixer. So I wanted to get some feedback from you guys before I made a decision on this. Thanks. Omar Binno
