Hi Tim,

If you've arrowed down and across to the first empty column, that is midi
channel one, the one below is midi channel 2, below that is midi channel 3 and
the bottom one is midi channel 4.

Now if you go back to the top empty column cursor across to the second empty
column that's Midi channel 5 and below is midi channel 6 and so on.

If you are using a midi keyboard try setting the keyboard midi to midi channel
1 and that should play the instrument that is placed on the first empty column.

If this doesn't still work, try checking in the track pain that the audio track
input is saying Aria Player?

One other thing remember these instruments don't play on every octave so you
could be playing notes where the samples don't play due to their register.

Hope this helps.

Steve W

  Hi Charles,

I believe I am doing everything correctly now. However, even
with the sound loaded into the first empty column, I still don't hear anything.
What else might I be doing wrong?

To this point, I am indebted to you for your generous help.

  God bless,

  Fr. Tim

  Fr. Tim:

If you chose to insert a midi track and an audio track for the Aria player,
then you will have a midi track that would have the Aria player in the output
column. The associated audio track is the one that should have the output
colomn set to master.

Yes, in the Aria player, using the JAWS cursor, go to the top of the Aria
window. Start moving down line by line until you hear the first line
containing four "empty" columns. You must click on the first one.

  Hi Charles,

I am able to use other soft synths with no problems. I will
check the ouput to see if it is master. I think it might be Aria. Also, I'm
not sure if it was the first empty that I clicked on. I didn't know it had to
be the first one. Also, I am assuming that midi channel is none.

Thanks for your help. I am looking forward to getting this working.

  In His Peace,

  Fr. Tim

  Fr. Tim:

Are you able to play any other softsynth? I am assuming that you opened the
Aria player and selected an instrument by clicking on the first "empty." Check
the output column of your instrument track and make sure that it is set to your
master bus.

  Hi Charles,

I reinstalled JAB3 and activated it. Then I went into Sonar,
and voila, it was in the soft synth selection. I am almost there. When I
insert the soft synth and follow the instructions you gave me, I can't hear
anything when I play my midi keyboard. Is there anything further I need to do?

  Thank you,

  Fr. Tim

  Fr. Tim:

In order to authorized the Jazz and Big Band instrument you must open the
Aria player. How did you do that?

For me, In order to insert the software instrument, I use alt-I and then
press the letter Y to get the list of softsynths. There I arrow down until I
find "Garritan" subfolder. Once I do a right arrow on that, I get two options,
the Aria Player Multi VST-X86, or the Aria Player VST-x86. Select either one
of those by hitting enter. You will get a list of options for inserting
softsynths. If you are not familiar with those options, you can just do a
shift tab and check the option to insert a simple instrument track. This will
take you back to the track view. Once there, make sure that you are on your
new instrument track and press control-y to open the Aria Player screen. Here
you'll need to use your JAWS cursor. If you start from the top, go down until
you find the first "empty." Do a left click there and you will get a list of
options. One of this will be the Jazz and Big Band list. You can do a right
arrow on it to get other options. Do a right arrow on the "standard" option,
and you will see the list of folders containing the instruments. Open any of
them and select your instrument by pressing enter.

  Hi Charles,

I activated the software and did a vst scan with Sonar 8.5.
I can't seem to find it in my synth or instrument folder. Do you have any
advice as to where I need to locate the JABB 3? I must have it in the wrong
folder, or I am not doing the vst scan properly.

  Appreciate your help,

  Fr. Tim

After you install it, you should have Sonar perform a VST scann so that it
will recognize the new instrument. After that, you should be able to find it
in the list of software instruments as Garritan Jazz and Big Band.

  Hello Fr. Tim:

I think you will need sighted assistance for that. The activation key comes
in a grafic file which you'll need to drag into the Aria player to authorize it.

  Hello,

Fr. Tim Devine here again. I just purchased and downloaded
Garritan Jazz and Big Band 3. I was confused by the instructions as to how to
install the file with the activation key. If anyone has ever installed this
before, would you be so kind as to walk me through it.

  Much appreciated,

  Fr. Tim
