A gas water heater should be fine to leave it on, no electric heating elements
to overheat. You might turn the cold water inlet to it off just to be sure.
But still leave a cold and hot water faucet open to be safe on any over-
pressure causing bursting pipes issue.

TOM,
I have a gas water heater and as far as I know, there is still water in
there... or how do tell? Feeling quite undone with all this. Thank you for
this information.

A WORD OF CAUTION ON WATER:
To prevent pipes bursting from water freezing in them, apparently people are
being told to turn your water off at the street, then open faucets in your
house. There is a potential danger in this. If you turn on two or more hot
water faucets, it is then possible that air will get in your electric water
heater. If this happens you can/WILL burn out the heating elements in the
water heater. If you
don't open a faucet and ice forms in the pipes, the pressure can build up and
still burst the pipes. so Turn off your water heater too.
Summarizing:
IF YOU TURN THE WATER OFF AT THE STREET, BE SURE TO TURN OFF YOUR WATER HEATER,
AND OPEN AT LEAST ONE COLD AND ONE HOT WATER FAUCET.

WHEN WATER DOES COME BACK ON, RUN HOT WATER FAUCETS LONG ENOUGH TO GET RID OF
AIR IN THE PIPES AND WATER HEATER BEFORE TURNING THE WATER HEATER BACK ON.

Kind offer! We are scooping snow, melting it, & using it to flush. We drew
water yesterday & boiled, but since don’t know how long water outage will last,
I’m keeping your offer in mind. Thank you! …Margaret on Queenswood

There are a number of us with both power and water. Does anyone need potable
or non-potable water at this time?
Buckets are ready for collection of either.
