Elaine, you are too young to remember when we had the KiKi birds. Beautiful
colors, long slender body built for speed. I always thought the name and the
bird came from Australia.
Not so ! The bird was native to N. America and wasn't named until it was
nearly extinct.
I remember the last one I saw.......... I was deer hunting and wandered out
into an area ravaged by forest fire. I spotted the bird circling just overhead
and watched as the circles got smaller and smaller.Finally, the circle closed
in and I watched as the bird flew up it's own butt and disappeared. I stood
there, entranced by what I had just witnessed, when suddenly I heard a sound.
As
the bird disappeared he uttered.......
Ki........Ki......... riced........ it's dark in here !!!! I knew immediately
where the bird go it's name.
Now you have the facts.
