I am going to check that out. It sounds challenging. Like you said there are those of us who still like to think. I learned most of this at, wait for it...wait for it...http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Telnet&btnG=Google+Search Shock and awe! I 'practiced' telnet at the same location I 'practice' it every day: nethack.alt.org. (http://www.alt.org/nethack/) NAO, as it's known, is a freely available server for the ancient and incredibly complex RPG known as Nethack. If you don't already know what Nethack is, the odds are incredibly slim that you care, so don't worry about it. Just know that it is a game created back in 1985 that's still immensely popular, still impressively difficult, and is still played and updated to this day by a very large community, one of the oldest games to do so. Roguelikes aren't for everyone, but there are those of us who still enjoy some challenge to and being forced to think during our games. Elitism++; What happened whilst I 'practiced'? Well, it was glorious. I ran a 5k turn tag team wizard under the name Azelos, a combination of Azeral (myself) and Eidolos (a good friend), setting the foundation for what promises to be an impossibly fortuitous ascension (my third in the years I've been playing, and with several conducts intact). What I learned about telnet today is that VI color codes are hellish to correctly parse in C++. That is, it's painful to get a bot to correctly parse an ASCII, color-coded screen and translate that two-dimensional map into actual data that it can use to navigate an environment. Exploration algorithms aren't fun, either. Also, PuTTY is a vastly superior telnet client to the default Windows client. http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/ -------------------------- Ryan Bailey Azeral777@xxxxxxxxx "Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off is if nothing ever happened." - Sir Winston Churchill --------------------------------- How low will we go?
