Maybe I can help you. You should know the city of'Ulm/Donau' , don't you ?
No idea how far it is from you, but there is a shop, where they sell
CMOS thingies. I bought a 3.6 Lithium from them last year.
They also do have 3.6 NiCd ones to solder into your board.
Does ist have to be a 3.6 V NiMH ?  I was told that it doesn't
really matter for the functionality of your system.
