This works unless you are using an ATC add-on. I have not had any issues
setting the aircraft to the airspeed ATC tells me to fly at. The trick is to
really know the aircraft, how heavy it is, etc. I have had it happen at least
once where ATC has told me to decrease my speed almost down to where I would
have had to extend the flaps to 5 degrees.

Subject: [bvipilots] Re: Airspeed issues with a default 737-800
Setting the airspeed on a jet aircraft involves 2 parameters; the air speed
referred to as the Indicated Air Speed (IAS) and the auto-throttle (AT). Thus,
you can say, "Airspeed 250" to set the IAS, but it will have no effect on the
engines unless the Auto Thottle is turned on by saying... "Auto Thottle On".
However, please keep in mind that Michelle will NOT perform any takeoff, climb
out, cruise, descent or auto-landing procedures unless she is controlling the
airseed.
Basically, I fail to understand how a BVI pilot can safely control the
complexity of a jetliner's airspeeds throughout all phases of flight. Ergo, I
suggest that you simply say to Michelle, "I'd like you to handle the air speed".

Hi All,
I was trying to make an approach into Seattle this evening, and ran into an
issue with the airspeed of my 737-800. Despite the IAS indicating 210 kts, I
was still making 400+ over the ground, and going way too fast for ATC to vector
me for the approach.
I kept saying “airspeed 210,” and IYP acknowledged, but it didn’t seem to
matter.
I’ve also heard this happen when using Radar Contact once or twice, and thought
it was an RC issue. It didn’t occur to me that it might be IYP until I heard it
live.
Any information or advice appreciated. I had to abort my approach today for
unrelated reasons, but it was still frustrating.
