Hi, Richard and All,

For those using a qwerty keyboard, the at sign is shift with 2.

I need to clarify something. Computer braille and grade 1 are different. Computer braille uses different punctuation signs than grade 1. For example, the period is dots 46 comma is dot 6 question mark is dots 1456 double quotation mark is dot 5. Computer braille numbers are written using Nemeth numbers without the number sign.

Grade 1 braille uses the same numbers and punctuation as grade 2 braille.

The advantage of using a qwerty keyboard is you don't have to write in different grades of braille. However, if you need to have an email address read in the correct braille grade, then you must use the dollar codes for beginning and ending computer braille.

I have never used an IOS with an Apex or any other kind of notetaker, so I don't know the commands that go with it or how the translator in them works. My comments pertain to using the Apex as a stand-alone notetaker.

The at sign, in American braille, is space-u, then dot 4. If you have 8 dot braille on, or if you press backspace with h before you enter the character, you can use backspace with dot 4 (backspace acts like dot 7 in 8 dot braille, enter acts like dot 8).

As to iOS, the braille grade in use on the Braillenote is completely unrelated. Any translation problems you might have are on iOS itself, but iOS7 should have made things much better. To not use contractions, press space-g while your bn is acting as a terminal. On Nov 11, 2013, at 5:24 PM, richard fiorello <richkar1@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote:

Hi;
I think I've asked before but after upgrading things once again don't seem to work as expected. Basically when in computer braille how does one write the at symbol? I would be using grade one. Do I have to turn on 8 dot braille? Also while mentioning things we would like to see changed I'd like the option to write in computer braille You wouldn't want to use computer braille to write a paper but for things like email addresses it would make life much easier. Also I have found the grade two translator to be at best unreliable. For example if I have the unit set to grade two and I am just using it as a terminal for a ios display sometimes grade 2 works reasonabley well other times some contractions are translated and others aren't. I'm a very new apple user but kind of convinced that using this as a display and leyboard for an i-pad or i-touch is the way to go rather than praying for the next update or better yet a new braille note that noone can afford unless rehab buys it.
Thanks
