Getting the Bookport case would be easier than removing the belt clip. Besides that, you are afforded a lot more protection.

Yes, you certainly can do that. One thing to keep in mind, however, is that you must write in uncontracted braille and therefore, it is a slower process for those of us who might be used to writing with contractions. For quick notes such as phone numbers or something, it's not bad.
