As someone who travels abroad frequently, I think an A/C adapter would turn out to be a nightmare, due to the variety of voltages and all the extra cables one would have to carry around. Plus, there would be the real risk of damaging the machine by using the wrong adapter. The current set-up, with easily replaceable AA's (alkaline or NiMH), is really ideal for a small, portable device.
